September 2025 Cruise Industry Highlights

The cruise industry saw major announcements and milestones throughout September 2025, with updates from some of the biggest names in the market.

Celebrity Cruises revealed details of its long-anticipated European river cruise program, introducing its first two vessels, Celebrity Compass and Celebrity Seeker. The line will debut 33 week-long sailings on the Rhine and Danube in 2027, blending immersive itineraries with design elements inspired by its Edge Series ocean ships. Demand is already high, with inaugural sailings selling out in minutes.

AmaWaterways also made waves by ordering eight new river cruise ships for delivery by 2030, nearly doubling its fleet to more than 40 vessels. The expansion reflects strong passenger interest in Europe’s waterways.

Disney Cruise Line faced setbacks, announcing a three-month delay to the launch of Disney Adventure, its largest-ever ship. The postponement follows recent sea trials and impacts at least 25 sailings, disrupting plans for thousands of guests.

Riviera Travel confirmed the launch of its first solo-dedicated river cruise ship, MS George Eliot, scheduled for 2027. In the same year, it will also debut Riviera Alba on the Mekong, marking its first venture outside Europe.

Other highlights included Celebrity Xcel completing sea trials ahead of its November debut, Virgin Voyages’ Brilliant Lady setting sail on her inaugural voyage, and Royal Caribbean officially starting construction on its fourth Icon Class ship. Windstar, PONANT, Carnival, and Tauck also rolled out updates ranging from new ships and itineraries to innovative onboard experiences.
