Holland America Line Marks 100 Years of Caribbean Cruising

Holland America Line is marking a century of Caribbean cruising with a new limited-time promotion that honors its role in shaping leisure travel to the region. The milestone traces back to February 1926, when the cruise line’s Veendam II departed New York on a voyage that helped define the modern Caribbean cruise experience.

The historic sailing was Holland America Line’s first Caribbean itinerary and a bold one for its time. The 26-day journey called at Havana, Kingston, Colón and Cristóbal in Panama, Cartagena, San Juan, and Bermuda before returning to New York. At a time when cruising was still emerging as a leisure pursuit, the voyage set a precedent for extended, multi-destination itineraries in the Caribbean and beyond.

To commemorate 100 years since that pioneering voyage, Holland America Line has introduced a special anniversary promotion featuring savings and added value for families. The offer includes up to 50 percent off cruise fares, a $50 onboard credit per guest, and free fares for kids aged 18 and under on select sailings. The promotion is available for bookings made through February 9 and applies to select Caribbean cruises departing now through April 30.

The anniversary offer is designed to reflect both the heritage and the modern appeal of Holland America Line’s Caribbean program. Today, the cruise line is known for operating perfectly sized ships that balance classic elegance with contemporary comforts, appealing to travelers who value a premium onboard experience and meaningful time ashore.

According to Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line, the promotion is intended to be both celebratory and accessible. She noted that the concept behind the offer—$100 in value for 100 years—was created to honor the milestone while inviting new and returning guests to experience what distinguishes the brand in the Caribbean.

A key part of that experience is time spent at RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, Holland America Line’s private island destination in the Bahamas. Known for its expansive beaches, clear waters, and relaxed atmosphere, the island has become a highlight of many Caribbean itineraries, offering guests a balance of natural beauty and curated shore experiences.

A century after Veendam II’s groundbreaking voyage, Holland America Line continues to evolve its Caribbean offerings while remaining rooted in its maritime heritage. The anniversary promotion not only reflects the cruise line’s history in the region but also underscores its ongoing commitment to delivering refined, destination-focused cruising for today’s travelers.
