Kingswood Completes SPI Buyout, Launches RAVE

Kingswood Capital Management has completed its acquisition of Safran Passenger Innovations from Safran, marking a significant shift in the inflight entertainment and connectivity sector. Following the transaction, SPI has been rebranded as RAVE Aerospace, reflecting a renewed strategic focus on its RAVE-branded IFEC platforms, which are currently deployed with more than 100 airline customers worldwide.
The Los Angeles-based private investment firm said the rebranding signals a growth-oriented chapter for the company as global aviation demand continues to expand. Clayton Lechleiter, principal at Kingswood, stated that travel and aviation markets are experiencing rapid recovery and long-term expansion, creating strong opportunities for technology providers that can meet rising passenger expectations for seamless, connected onboard experiences.
RAVE Aerospace will continue to operate from its headquarters in Brea, California, with Matt Smith remaining as chief executive officer. The existing leadership team will stay in place, tasked with accelerating product innovation and expanding the company’s footprint among airlines, lessors and aircraft manufacturers. The focus will remain on enhancing the RAVE platform’s reliability, efficiency and scalability while investing in next-generation capabilities.
The RAVE IFEC platform is known for its lightweight architecture and flexible deployment options, offering embedded and wireless entertainment solutions tailored to airline operational needs. With more than 100 customers globally, the brand has established a solid presence across narrowbody and widebody fleets.
Under Kingswood’s ownership, RAVE Aerospace is expected to pursue strategic investments in advanced connectivity, data-driven passenger engagement and modular cabin technologies. The company aims to strengthen its competitive position in a market increasingly shaped by multi-orbit satellite connectivity, streaming expectations and digital personalisation.
Matt Smith said the new company identity builds on the heritage and performance of the RAVE platform while positioning the business for accelerated growth. He noted that the partnership with Kingswood provides access to capital and strategic resources needed to expand product development and global reach.
As airlines prioritize passenger experience and operational efficiency, the completion of the acquisition and rebranding underscores continued private equity interest in aviation technology and the evolving IFEC landscape.
