Air Force Two Repaint Marks VIP Fleet Overhaul
After more than six decades, the iconic robin’s egg blue livery long associated with US presidential aircraft is being replaced, signaling the start of a broader makeover of the executive airlift fleet.
A US Air Force C-32, the Boeing 757-based aircraft typically designated as Air Force Two when carrying the vice president, has appeared in a new dark navy, red and gold paint scheme ordered by President Donald Trump. The jet represents the first visible indication that the long-anticipated redesign of the VIP fleet is moving from concept to implementation.
Images circulating on social media show the aircraft departing Majors Airport in Greenville, Texas, wearing the updated livery. The new scheme replaces the light blue and white design introduced during the Kennedy administration in the early 1960s, which became one of the most recognizable symbols of American executive aviation.
The C-32 fleet supports high-priority transport missions for senior US officials, including the vice president, first lady and cabinet members. While the repaint does not change the aircraft’s operational capabilities, the shift carries significant symbolic value, marking a departure from a design that defined presidential travel for generations.
According to media reports, the updated paint requirement extends beyond the C-32 to the broader executive fleet. This includes the VC-25 aircraft that serve as Air Force One and the Boeing 747-8 aircraft currently being converted into the next-generation VC-25B presidential transports.
Rather than grounding the fleet for simultaneous modifications, the repainting effort is reportedly being carried out as aircraft rotate through scheduled maintenance and upgrade cycles. This phased approach suggests a gradual transition, though the appearance of a completed C-32 indicates that execution is already underway.
It remains unclear how many aircraft have been repainted or the timeline for completing the transition across the entire executive fleet. The Air Force operates a small but diverse group of VIP transport aircraft, each configured for secure communications and senior leadership travel.
The new livery closely resembles a design previewed during President Trump’s first term for the VC-25B replacement aircraft, a proposal that was later shelved under the Biden administration.
For aviation observers, the repaint is largely cosmetic. For the Air Force and the White House, however, it represents a visible rebranding of some of the most high-profile aircraft in the world. As additional jets cycle through maintenance in 2026, more aircraft are expected to emerge in the updated scheme, further signaling the transformation of the executive fleet.
