Koningsdam Upgrades Complete Ahead of Alaska Season

Holland America Line’s Koningsdam has returned to service following a two-week dry dock in the Bahamas, unveiling a series of upgrades as it prepares for its upcoming Alaska season. The enhancements span accommodations, entertainment spaces, dining venues, and onboard amenities, positioning the ship for peak summer demand.
Fresh from refurbishment, Koningsdam is currently operating its final Caribbean sailing before transiting the Panama Canal en route to Alaska. The timing aligns with Holland America Line’s strategy to optimize its fleet ahead of the high-demand Alaska cruise season.
A key highlight of the dry dock is the addition of five new, larger ocean-view staterooms. Designed to accommodate up to four guests, each features two beds convertible to a queen-size configuration along with a double sofa bed. Four of the new staterooms are connecting, offering greater flexibility for families and groups traveling together—an increasingly important segment for Alaska itineraries.
In addition, 22 Vista Suites have been upgraded with new sofa beds, further expanding options for multi-guest occupancy and enhancing comfort for longer voyages.
Entertainment spaces have also been reimagined. The area linking Billboard Onboard and Rolling Stone Lounge has been redesigned with additional seating and an updated layout, creating a more immersive and social live music environment. These improvements aim to elevate the onboard experience, particularly during extended itineraries.
Koningsdam’s casino has been expanded as part of the refurbishment, reflecting continued demand for gaming amenities among cruise passengers. The ship also received a series of interior upgrades, including new carpeting in both staterooms and public areas, contributing to a refreshed and modernized aesthetic throughout.
Dining venues were not overlooked. Signature restaurants such as Pinnacle Grill, Sel de Mer, and Club Orange have undergone updates to enhance ambiance and guest experience, reinforcing the ship’s premium culinary offering.
Additional improvements include upgrades to the fitness center with new equipment and a complete refresh of the Effy jewelry retail space, aligning onboard retail with evolving passenger expectations.
With these enhancements, Koningsdam is set to deliver an upgraded cruise experience as it heads north. The refurbishment underscores Holland America Line’s continued investment in its fleet, ensuring its ships remain competitive in key seasonal markets such as Alaska while catering to evolving traveler preferences.
