The North American flights grew by 13% early June

As airlines and airports around the world recover from the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. The North American market grew by more than 850,000 seats last week, representing a week-on-week increase of 13.2%. In excess of 500,000 weekly seats were also added in Europe.

The US leads the way when it comes to numerical growth, adding more than 930,000 departure seats last week. However, China remains the world’s largest aviation market by capacity with 12.4 million seats.

The top 10 airports in the world a year ago offered a combined 10.5 million departure seats. The same 10 airports last week offered 2.67 million. The biggest airport in the world during the last seven days was Guangzhou (CAN), which did not feature in the top 10 a year ago. The Chinese airport offered 600,650 seats, ahead of Beijing Capital (PEK) in second with 574,000.
