Passenger traffic at Athens thriving, as the destination is becoming a NEW tourism hotspot in Southern Europe. Following a strong Q1 with traffic already above 2019 levels by +2.4% , April so far (up to 24/4) @ +8.6 to the same period in 2019.
This impressively strong performance for April is driven by both the International segment, as well as a booming Domestic market. Additionally: more NEW developments are “landing“ at Athens.
Korean Air just announced the Seoul-Athens route with a series of Charter flights in May 2023, operating on a A330-200 equipment. As advised by our colleagues in Korean Air, the Athens product is so popular that flights are already booked, above 90%.
Air China just advised that they are increasing flights to Athens this Summer, returning to 3 weekly frequencies from the 8th of June, same as Air China operated in the record Summer of 2019. This 3rd weekly flight will operate every Friday (Day 5), supplementing Air China current operations on days 3 & 7. The return of capacity in the Chinese market to the pre-Pandemic levels and recent lifting of all restrictions for individuals and groups traveling from/to China, arrived in the right time as traffic is picking up and the additional capacity will help the Chinese market to gradually return to pre-Pandemic levels.
