A4A: Payroll Support Program saved jobs, ensured continued air service
The Payroll Support Program saved more than 735,000 airline jobs and ensured continued air service to communities across the country, Airlines for America President and CEO Nicholas Calio said in a letter to lawmakers. Without federal payroll support, airlines “would have been forced to implement massive layoffs, dramatically reduce service and cancel fleet orders,” Calio writes. Today as passenger demand continues to rise, airlines are prepared to meet strong holiday demand. “Our positive performance throughout November, including an exceptionally busy Thanksgiving holiday period, and in the first several days of December is further proof that we are committed to using every tool at our disposal to provide a safe and smooth experience to the traveling public,” Calio said.
