A4A recognizes women aviation pioneers
For Women’s History Month, Airlines for America celebrated Bessie Coleman, Cornelia Fort and Hazel Ying Lee as trailblazing women aviation pioneers. Coleman was the first Black woman to receive her pilot’s license and became known for her barnstorming; Fort was one of the first pilots to encounter Japanese planes prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor when she was conducting a training flight midair; and Lee was the first Chinese American woman to earn a pilot’s license and fly for the US military.
