Aerospace Technologies Group will be displaying the company’s enhanced new dual function aerBlade™ electronic window shade at the MRO Americas for the first time.

The aerBlade is an electronically operated window shade system which passengers can control with the touch of a button, choosing a view that is clear, sun blocking or full blackout. Aerospace Technologies Group says solution is a direct replacement for the traditional manual slider shade and doesn’t require sidewall modifications. It also offers true blackout during long-haul flights and is flat opaque material which offers aircraft owners and operators the opportunity to customise the finish. The shade can matched to the cabin environment with graphic patterns, faux fabric textures or other surface treatments.

Crew members can automatically lower and raise all window shades on the aircraft from the flight attendant panel and their inboard passenger sides have protective clear lenses that are easy to clean and keep germ free.

The dual shade aerBlade version includes a second shade which the company says is uniquely tinted, allowing passengers to block bright sunlight and still provide a view outside the aircraft. The combination of opaque and translucent shades has overcome all the deficiencies of electronic dimmable windows such as lack of a true black out, mirror like reflective glare in the cabin when EDW’s are turned darkest and the inability to maintain either dark or clear when powerless. The aerBlade with the opaque shade lowered is full blackout, without reflective glare and a customizable cosmetic appearance.

aerBlade is equipped with ATG’s NextGen electronic controls and offers IoT functionality and connectivity to onboard maintenance and cabin management systems. The advanced electronic controls feature self-learning algorithms and sensor-less control to extend the shade life and provide the quietest operation.

According to ATG, the company plans to offer future models of the solution for a wide range of commercial aircraft including the Airbus A350, A321LR and A321XLR and Boeing 777 Series and 737 Family of aircraft.
ATG electric window shades can already be found on board small, mid, and large cabin business jets as well as Boeing 777-300ER, A380, and A350 aircraft in the premium class seating areas.
