Air Canada Enhances Travel Experience with Real-Time Baggage and Mobility Aid Tracking

Air Canada has significantly elevated the travel experience for its customers by introducing a real-time baggage and mobility aid tracking feature in its mobile app. This innovation, launched on December 1, 2023, is currently available for passengers traveling within Canada. The feature is designed to provide travelers with added confidence and improve the overall customer experience by offering greater convenience and real-time information about the movement of their belongings during their journey.

The mobile app enables customers to track their baggage and mobility aids in real time at key points throughout their journey, using the same tag scanning information that Air Canada employees use at each stage to handle these items. For those required to check mobility aids, the app offers the reassurance of being able to confirm that their aid is securely loaded before the aircraft departs. In addition, the app’s “What’s Next” feature informs customers about the next step for their belongings, including details like baggage carousel numbers at transfer points or the final destination.

In instances of delayed baggage, the app not only notifies customers via text or email but also allows them to file a delayed baggage report directly from their smartphones. This feature saves time for customers by avoiding waiting at the carousel or at a baggage assistance counter.

Initially available on domestic flights, Air Canada plans to expand this tracking feature to U.S. flights in 2024 and, over time, to select international destinations. The mobile app, which is available for free download from Apple’s App Store or Google Play, is an integral part of Air Canada’s commitment to integrating technology to keep passengers informed and reassured.
