Air Canada safety director on managing challenges

Before becoming director of flight operations safety at Air Canada, Robert Palmer served as director of safety at Jazz Aviation, where he implemented a new safety management system, and he says it was “extremely challenging to get up to speed to build a program of compliance, to demonstrate not only compliance but effectiveness.” Palmer transitioned to Air Canada during the pandemic and he worked to put policies and procedures in place for crews and employees as they transported personal protective equipment. He now faces a new challenge: getting employees recalled to work back up to speed.
