Air Niugini places the highest priority on safety
Air Niugini, the national airline of PNG, places the highest priority on safety for passengers, crew, and the public, as affirmed by the Acting CEO, Gary Seddon. The airline is committed to maintaining the highest safety standards and is prepared to delay or cancel a flight due to unfavorable conditions such as bad weather, security issues, technical problems, or operational requirements.
The company’s dedication to safety is unshakable, and it will not compromise it for any reason, even if it means causing inconvenience to passengers. Air Niugini has a team of highly skilled engineers and maintenance personnel who work around the clock to ensure that the aircraft are safe to operate.
Since April 2022, Air Niugini has completed more than 26,000 flights and carried 1.2 million passengers. Although over 7% of flights were canceled, the company recognizes that safety always comes first, and Jetstar, Qantas, and Virgin Australia also had flight cancellations during the same period.
While the Fokker jets have served the country well, Air Niugini plans to replace them with larger and more modern aircraft that feature the latest technology and enhanced fuel efficiency. The company has reviewed various new fleet options and has narrowed the selection to the new Airbus A220 and Embraer E2 regional jets, which will better serve domestic and regional markets.
In the meantime, Air Niugini is acquiring six Boeing 737-800 and Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, expected to arrive from September this year. The company’s highly skilled engineers and maintenance personnel, such as licensed aircraft maintenance engineers Mark Uberawa and Elton Tunkia, are dedicated to ensuring the safety of the airline’s aircraft.
