Airbus Delivers 62 Jets in October as It Pursues Annual Goal of 770

Airbus delivered 62 aircraft in October, bringing its 2023 total to 559 as it pushes toward a revised year-end target of around 770 planes. Originally set at 800, the target was lowered in July due to ongoing supply chain issues.

To meet this goal, Airbus needs to deliver over 200 additional planes by year’s end. Analysts believe the company may reach approximately 750 deliveries without needing another target cut, though the flexibility in the “around 770” guidance gives Airbus some room to adjust.

A key factor in achieving the target is the availability of engines and Airbus’s capacity to manage a high-paced delivery schedule typical of pre-pandemic years. However, parts and labor shortages across the supply chain present obstacles.

Analysts remain cautiously optimistic. Sash Tusa of Agency Partners noted that while meeting the original goal would be challenging, achieving 750 deliveries would still be a positive outcome. Chloe Lemarie from Jefferies also indicated that production levels seem solid, suggesting that Airbus could achieve numbers close to its guidance if supply issues improve.

In October, Airbus secured 82 orders, including a major deal for 60 jets with Riyadh Air, bringing its total orders for the year to 749, with a net total of 730 after cancellations. As the year draws to a close, Airbus is expected to leverage every opportunity to reach its ambitious delivery target despite ongoing challenges.
