Airbus Falls Short of 2024 Delivery Target but Remains Strong
Airbus has missed its 2024 aircraft delivery target, falling short of its goal to complete “around 770” deliveries, despite a strong push in December. According to sources, Airbus ultimately delivered approximately 760 aircraft by the end of the year, with close to 120 planes delivered in the final month.
To meet CEO Guillaume Faury’s target, Airbus would have needed to deliver around 127 aircraft in December alone. While the company didn’t hit that mark, its achievement of delivering 120 aircraft in the last month of 2024 still marks an impressive effort, given the challenges it faced throughout the year.
In comparison, Airbus had a more manageable target in 2023. The planemaker aimed for “around 720” deliveries, requiring just 97 aircraft to be delivered in December. By the end of the year, Airbus surpassed expectations, delivering 112 aircraft to 51 customers.
In July 2024, Airbus revised its delivery forecast, reducing its target from 800 aircraft to around 770. The adjustment was due to a shortage of key components, particularly engines, which slowed production. Despite these setbacks, Airbus managed to achieve a strong total for the year, continuing its trend of consistent deliveries.
The official Airbus statistics for 2024, including final orders and deliveries, are expected to be released on January 9, 2025, according to Bloomberg. This data will provide a more comprehensive look at the company’s performance for the year.
Airbus’ focus on achieving its delivery goals comes amid tough competition with its main rival, Boeing. The US planemaker had a turbulent year, facing strikes and manufacturing restrictions imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) following the Alaska Airlines door plug incident. These challenges have likely affected Boeing’s delivery numbers for 2024, giving Airbus an opportunity to surpass its competitor.
Overall, while Airbus did not meet its initial delivery target for 2024, the company’s resilience in the face of production difficulties has allowed it to maintain a strong position in the global aerospace market. As the company prepares to release official figures, it remains poised to outperform its rivals in aircraft deliveries for the year.
