Airbus misses its 2022 aircraft delivery target

Based on its November deliveries of 68 commercial aircraft and what it calls a ‘complex operating environment’, Airbus SE now considers its target to achieve ‘around 700’ commercial aircraft deliveries in 2022 to be out of reach. However, Airbus says the final figure is not expected to fall materially short of that delivery target.

That ‘complex environment’ covers everything from supply chain issues, to air traffic restrictions and problems relating to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and Airbus expects such issues will persist longer than previously expected.

The net year to date delivery number of 563 reflects a reduction of two deliveries recorded in December 2021 (two A350-900s due for Aeroflot) for which a transfer was not possible due to international sanctions. In November 2022 Airbus registered 29 new aircraft orders and 14 cancellations, bringing the backlog to 7,344 aircraft.

Airbus will be adjusting the speed of the A320 Family production ramp-up to 65 aircraft per month for 2023 and 2024, and is maintaining its objective of reaching 75 aircraft per month by the middle of the decade.

Airbus’s full-year 2022 commercial aircraft orders and deliveries will be disclosed – after an audit on 10th January 2023. Full-year results will be disclosed on 16th February 2023, and Airbus is targeting around € 5.5 billion of EBIT Adjusted.
