Airlines invest in initiatives to attract new talent
US airlines, including United, American and Alaska Airlines, are developing programs designed to serve as a pipeline to aviation careers with an emphasis on investing in individuals who have historically faced barriers to the industry. “It’s nice to see yourself represented, and I am looking forward to being that inspiration to a young Black girl,” said Ricki Foster, a member of the first class at United Airlines’ new Aviate Academy. While United Airlines operates the Aviate Academy flight school, American and Alaska have developed partnerships with flight schools to finance and mentor prospective pilots.
