Airlines update weight data for FAA

The Federal Aviation Administration is requiring airlines to update their estimates of passengers’ weight. American Airlines, whose plan is the first to get official FAA approval, is increasing its estimate for passenger weight by 8 pounds, to 182 pounds in summer and 187 pounds in winter, and will also increase baggage weight estimates by five pounds for carry-ons and four pounds for checked bags.
