Alaska CEO: Alternative fuels key to sustainability goals

Alaska Airlines aims “to be the most fuel-efficient airline in the country” in five years, CEO Ben Minicucci told Washington Post Live during an event Wednesday, outlining a plan that includes upgrading its fleet, carbon offsets, achieving operational efficiencies and supporting innovative technology. But the key component is sustainable aviation fuel, Minicucci said, and government support is essential for the 10 to 15 years it will take for the cost of sustainable fuels to be competitive with fossil fuels.
