Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) is prioritizing the growth of its short and medium-haul fleet by 2030, as revealed by CEO Shinichi Inoue during the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit 2023 held in Istanbul, Turkey, on June 5, 2023. Inoue emphasized ANA’s intention to increase the number of fuel-efficient aircraft, with a particular focus on adding more Boeing 787 planes to their fleet.

Speaking to reporters, Inoue expressed the significance of incorporating eco-friendly and efficient aircraft like the Boeing 787 for the airline’s future operations, as reported by Reuters. Additionally, ANA’s CEO confirmed the company’s plans to introduce Air Japan, a low-cost airline, by the spring of 2024.

The IATA AGM provided a platform for industry leaders to make significant announcements regarding their respective operations. Ahead of the event, Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker made headlines by stating that the forthcoming Boeing 777X aircraft would not feature first-class seating, potentially indicating a shift in the carrier’s onboard product offerings.

During the AGM, Thai Airways CEO Chai Eamsiri reportedly shared the airline’s intentions to dispose of six of its dormant Airbus A380 aircraft as part of ongoing order negotiations, as detailed by Aviation Daily. These developments further underscore the dynamic nature of the aviation industry.

ANA currently operates 199 active aircraft, with an additional 13 planes in inactive status and 24 under wet lease agreements, according to ch-aviation. The airline eagerly awaits the delivery of 55 aircraft, including 18 Boeing 777-9 and 15 Airbus A320neos, which will contribute to its future expansion plans.
