“Fire” is certainly not a phrase anyone wants to hear while high up in the sky on board an airplane, but that’s what happened to an American Airlines flight at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport on Thursday.

The incident happened on the runway, and the plane had to return to the terminal. Fortunately, nobody was hurt. The aircraft involved was an Airbus A321.

“Everyone was trying to panic, but we couldn’t go anywhere. That was the biggest scare,” passenger Claire Dundon said.

American Airlines stated in a release: “Flight 2288 to Dallas-Fort Worth reported a mechanical issue and safely taxied back to the gate under its own power.” That particular aircraft was taken out of service, and passengers were transported to Dallas on a different flight. The cause of the fire was not known as of early Saturday morning.
