The American Airlines Education Foundation announced it would donate nearly $1 million in scholarship funds to 340 students who are dependents of the airline’s team members.

The scholarships will fund full-time undergraduate study at any accredited college, university or vocational program around the world, with each recipient being awarded a $2,500 scholarship.

Another 100 first-generation college students received an additional $1,000 award for the 2023–2024 school year. The 2023 recipients live in eight countries: the United States, Canada, Mexico, Dominican Republic, England, Jamaica, Peru and Spain.

“This year our scholarship recipients continue to raise the bar — consistently establishing ambitious goals and striving to excel in their chosen fields of study,” American Chief Marketing and Communications Officer and President of the Education Foundation, Ron DeFeo, said.

“We take great pride in supporting our team members and their families, as they work toward reaching new heights throughout life’s journey,” DeFeo continued.

Around 1,375 students applied for an Education Foundation scholarship this year, with applicants being evaluated through a competitive process based on academic achievement, community service, extracurricular activities and financial need.

For those interested in next year’s scholarships, the American Airlines Education Foundation revealed the application window for the 2024–2025 academic year will open in January.
