American Airlines maintenance exec blazes trails

American Airlines has promoted Evita Garces from director of maintenance to vice president of line maintenance. Garces, the first Hispanic woman to hold either position, said her new job focuses on long-term planning and strategy, on how “we become the tech ops organization that’s the pit crew that does it faster and better than anyone else.”
