When Brian Znotins joined American Airlines as vice president of network planning in January 2020, he did not know he would be faced with having to reinvent a system that could rapidly shift plans and priorities in response to passenger demand and travel restrictions that changed daily during the pandemic. “There were many sleepless nights,” Znotins said, “lying awake wondering what we were going to do to adjust the network to respond to demand.”
