American pilot helps build LGBTQ support network

After becoming a pilot in 2008, David Pettet became an active member of the National Gay Pilots Association, which he led as president from 2014 through 2020. Being a part of the organization enabled Pettet to help build an advocacy framework and a support network for other LGBTQ aviators. “The organization was a foundation and support network, both personally and professionally, helping me navigate my own coming out,” said Pettet, adding, “It really provided the support, resources, contacts and networking opportunities I needed to land my dream job as a pilot for American Airlines.”
