Amex GBT Adds Neo Expense to Mobile App

American Express Global Business Travel has added expense management to its mobile app for clients using the Neo travel and expense platform. The app uses optical character recognition and machine learning to scan photos of receipts for data to complete expense reports and link them to the trip in progress. Users may also scan PDF receipts imported from their email.

GBT in a release claimed it is the only global travel management company to offer a proprietary end-to-end travel and expense management solution on a mobile platform. The Neo platform originally was developed by European travel and expense provider KDS prior to that company’s acquisition by Amex GBT in 2016. It was built to meet the demands of the region’s complex financial regulatory landscape. That development has continued, with Neo most recently certified to deliver expenses in Spain. The company said the full Neo solution is available for GBT customers in countries around the world, including the U.S. and Canada.

More TMCs are looking to payment and expense management to drive revenue. TripActions this fall introduced its Liquid Travel & Expense function. Smaller platform TravelBank always has tapped expense management as a differentiator but relies on partner TMCs to fulfill travel bookings.
