U.S.-based defense tech startup Anduril unveiled its Bolt family of Autonomous Air Vehicles (AAVs), designed for a variety of missions. The Bolt series, which includes both Bolt for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) and Bolt-M, a weaponized loitering munition, provides advanced capabilities for modern warfare.

The Bolt drone is optimized for ISR and search and rescue missions, offering real-time intelligence gathering. Meanwhile, Bolt-M, equipped with a warhead, functions as a loitering munition, commonly known as a “kamikaze drone,” delivering precision strikes. Its autonomous waypoint navigation allows it to detect and target a wide range of objects, such as light vehicles and soldiers, without pre-defined targets.

With more than 40 minutes of flight time and a 20-kilometer range, Bolt-M enhances its ability to support ground forces. The drone’s VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) capability eliminates the need for special launch gear, making it deployable in complex and crowded environments. Its onboard camera provides day and night tracking of both fixed and moving targets from long distances.

Anduril emphasized the weaponized version’s advantages over traditional anti-tank systems, citing greater range, hovering capabilities, and visual guidance for precise targeting. This technology, increasingly popular during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, is in demand by armed forces globally.

Lightweight and compact, the Bolt family can be easily integrated into soldiers’ gear. Bolt-M can be operational within five minutes, providing troops with rapid, accurate firepower when needed most.
