Avianca orders 88 Airbus A320neo jets
Colombian airline Avianca announced it has reached an agreement with Airbus to buy 88 A320neo aircraft with an option for 50 more.
These aircraft are scheduled to start deliveries in 2025, the airline already has over 100 A320 series aircraft in its fleet, some of these new aircraft are intended to replace older A320ceo models while other are going to help the airline fly new routes.
Currently the airline operates 99 routes, it plans to double that to over 200 by 2025, it also wants to have over 130 A320 series in aircraft in its fleet.
In a statement Avianca CFO said: “This is great news for our company, our people and our customers, considering that the A320neo family is the most advanced single-aisle fleet in terms of efficiency, reliability and comfort. This order highlights that we continue to make the required investments to grow our network in line with our business plan”.
These new aircraft are going to be configured with the airline’s new cabin, 90 of the carrier’s planes are going thru the reconfiguration process and are scheduled to be done by the end of 2022, 26 of them are already done. The new configuration offers passenger a choice of three classes, premium, plus and economy.
On November 2, 2021, Avianca’s reorganization plan was approved by the court, and on December 1, 2021, more than a year and a half after originally filing, Avianca emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in its history as a leaner, more efficient, and more competitive airline.
