Azores Airlines Expands Transatlantic Network with New Routes from Madeira

Azores Airlines, the flagship carrier of the Azores archipelago in Portugal, has unveiled plans to introduce two new transatlantic routes departing from Madeira, another Portuguese island group situated in the Atlantic Ocean. Set to commence operations in June 2024, these new routes will connect Madeira’s capital, Funchal, with Boston and New York in the United States.

The airline intends to operate these routes twice a week, utilizing Airbus A321neo aircraft. New Routes Details:

  • Funchal to Boston: Flights on this route are scheduled to depart on Mondays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. and will arrive at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) at 12:30 p.m. local time.
  • Return flights from BOS will take off at 2:00 p.m. and land at Funchal Cristiano Ronaldo Airport (FNC) at 10:30 p.m. local time. The approximate flight duration will be six and a half hours westbound and eight and a half hours eastbound.
  • Funchal to New York: Operations for this route are planned for Tuesdays and Fridays, with flights departing at 10:00 a.m. and arriving at New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) at 1:00 p.m. local time.
  • Return flights from JFK will depart at 2:30 p.m. and land at FNC at 11:00 p.m. local time. Travel time for this route will be about seven hours westbound and nine hours eastbound.

With the addition of these new routes, Azores Airlines will expand its North American network to a total of six destinations. The airline currently operates flights from Ponta Delgada, the capital of the Azores, to Boston, New York, Toronto, Montreal, and Bermuda. Additionally, Azores Airlines serves various other destinations across Europe, Africa, and South America. The new routes are expected to enhance connectivity and tourism between Portugal and the United States, providing travelers in both markets with more choices and convenience.

Azores Airlines’ CEO, Matt Ian David, expressed his excitement about the new routes and noted the strong demand for leisure travel between Madeira and the United States.
