Bamboo Airways, the Vietnamese carrier facing financial challenges, is embarking on a fleet restructuring initiative starting in October. With a current fleet of 30 leased aircraft from various lessors, Bamboo Airways aims to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs through the restructuring process.

The airline highlighted its objective to stabilize operations, foster further growth opportunities, and increase the uniformity of aircraft types in the long run. Bamboo Airways, facing financial setbacks with a reported loss of VND 17.6 trillion (USD 740 million) for the calendar year 2022, is actively taking steps to navigate challenges and restore financial stability.

The fleet restructuring will involve negotiations with lessors, aiming to optimize the fleet composition and streamline the types of aircraft operated by Bamboo Airways. The airline currently operates seven different aircraft types, all leased from ten different lessors. The restructuring process will involve renegotiating cooperation agreements with lessors, with the airline already confirming changes with at least one lessor.

While specific details about the number of aircraft and lessors affected were not disclosed, Bamboo Airways emphasizes its commitment to overcoming difficulties and repositioning itself for a sustainable future. The airline, which operates both domestic and international routes, serves 31 destinations within Vietnam and an additional ten countries, including Thailand, Germany, China, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Macao, and Singapore.
