Officials in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., are considering lifting a 37-year-old ban on consumption of alcoholic beverages on the sandy sections of beaches, but only for hotel guests and renters of hotel beach chairs. Hoteliers welcome the proposed change and note that an upscale clientele has replaced the Spring Break crowds whose revelry prompted the prohibition.
