Boeing, Airbus say 5G could harm aviation safety
In a letter to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun and Airbus Americas CEO Jeffrey Knittel urged the Biden administration to postpone the planned deployment of 5G wireless, warning of potential threats to aviation safety. The letter cited an analysis from Airlines for America that said if the Federal Aviation Administration’s 5G directive had been in effect in 2019, about 345,000 passenger flights and 5,400 cargo flights might have been delayed, diverted or canceled.
