Boeing says 75% of inventoried 737 MAX aircraft will have to be reworked prior to delivery

Boeing has said that it will have to rework 75% of its 225 737 MAX aircraft in its inventory due to a production problem that affects the jet’s fuselage.

CFO Brian West said that the number of inventoried planes requiring a rework may increase in Q2 2023.

The biggest obstacle to clearing the inventory is China, where 138 of the aircraft are scheduled to be delivered to airlines, but most deliveries are expected by the end of 2024. The cause of the delay is related to a supplier issue, which has caused delays in delivering affected aircraft to customers.
