Antigua and Barbuda officials announced the launch of a direct link to the Caribbean’s ABC islands via a new twice-weekly British Airways flights between Antigua and Barbuda’s V.C. Bird International Airport and Aruba’s Queen Beatrix International Airport.

The new flight “enhance(s) inter-regional connectivity within the Caribbean,” said Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority officials in a statement.

The new flights also “complement the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority’s growth and diversification strategy into new markets,” said Charmaine Spencer, ABTA’s director of tourism for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The new flights will depart on Sunday and Thursday, said officials. “We are pleased with this new service, as it is the first direct connection between Antigua and Aruba,” Spencer said.

“It is also an opportune time to attract new potential visitors for the summer and access new markets to promote our cultural events,” Spencer added. Introductory roundtrip airfares for the route start at $448, said officials.

“We’re delighted to be offering more inter-regional connectivity with this new flight between Aruba and Antigua,” said Diane Corrie, British Airways’ commercial manager for the Caribbean.

The dual-island Caribbean nation will host a series of culturally focused events this spring and summer, including Antigua and Barbuda Art Week (April 17 to 22), the Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta (April 19 to 24), Antigua Sailing Week (April 29 to May 5), Antigua and Barbuda Restaurant Week (May 7 to May 21) and Antigua’s Carnival, held from July 27 through August 8.
