British Airways may launch legal action over uk quarantine ruling
IAG owner British Airways has hinted that it may consider legal action over the UK’s planned quarantine rules set to begin on Monday. The group’s CEO Willie Walsh, made the comment this morning.
Under the UK’s ruling, passengers returning to the UK will have to undergo a two-week self quarantine with all but essential travel being allowed. Any holidaymakers will have to add a further 14 days on to any time taken when they return. This will also extend to any overseas business meetings, even if they are a simple day trip.
The UK’s aviation industry is unsatisfied and IAG has joined calls against the quarantine stating in a letter to MPs that the new procedure will “torpedo” the airline’s planned July recovery during this unique circumstances.
According to simpleflying.com, IAG CEO and former British Airways CEO, Willie Walsh wrote in a letter to the MPs stating:
“British Airways had hoped to operate about 40% of our scheduled flights in July but this has been torpedoed by the introduction of the 14-day quarantine period for people arriving in the UK.”
Ryanair has also announced that it will support any legal action launched by the IAG against the UK’s “ineffective and useless quarantine.”
