“Right now we’re seeing some encouraging signs” of air travel recovering, A4A President and CEO Nick Calio said on CNN International. Calio referenced continued demand to domestic leisure destinations but highlighted the necessity for uniform digital health credentials to open additional markets to vaccinated travelers. “It would lead to an end of the restrictions in the quarantines and would open up travel in the economy,” he said. Calio explained the situation for US airlines is not very good, noting that carriers are continuing to burn $150 million in cash each day. However, with the extension of the Payroll Support Program, Calio remains hopeful about airlines path to recovery.
