Cam Ranh International Airport’s Terminal 2 in Nha Trang, Vietnam, is taking bold steps to boost its international connectivity as travel rebounds. In 2024, Terminal 2, which handles all of CXR’s international flights, served 4.3 million passengers—a 79% increase from the previous year and reaching 70% of pre-pandemic levels from 2019. This impressive recovery has been driven primarily by South Korean travelers, with numbers rising 53% compared to 2023 and a 170% jump from 2019. The strong performance from the South Korean market is largely due to robust partnerships with Korean airlines operating from major hubs such as Incheon, Busan, Daegu, and Cheongju. Favorable visa-free policies and short flight durations have further reinforced Nha Trang’s appeal as a top destination for Korean tourists.

The airport’s success extends beyond its relationship with South Korea. In 2024, the China market also experienced significant growth, complemented by increasing demand from the CIS region, where new direct services to Almaty and Astana in Kazakhstan have been established. A major milestone for Terminal 2 was the entry into the Polish market, achieved through a strategic partnership with SkyUp MT, which now offers flights from Poland to Cam Ranh. These developments are essential for diversifying the terminal’s international routes and expanding its passenger base.

Looking ahead, Cam Ranh International Airport is actively expanding its network into Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Australia. The terminal has set its sights on launching new routes to key destinations including Singapore, India, Japan, Cambodia, the Philippines, GCC countries, and Indonesia. To achieve these ambitious goals, the airport is employing a multi-faceted strategy that involves transitioning charter flights into regular operations, improving connectivity to secondary cities in Korea, and diversifying tourism sources by tapping into European and Middle Eastern markets. According to Pham Thanh Son, General Director of Cam Ranh International Terminal JSC, a critical element of this strategy is the implementation of airline incentives designed to encourage new route launches and improve operational efficiency.

The management team is focused on leveraging these measures and fostering strong partnerships with airlines and tourism stakeholders to solidify Terminal 2’s role as a competitive international aviation hub. In addition, the airport is investing in advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and automation to enhance customer experiences and meet the growing expectations for digital services and sustainable practices. These technological advancements are expected to streamline operations and improve overall service quality, ensuring that Terminal 2 remains dynamic and responsive in a highly competitive global market.

While challenges persist, including intensifying competition from other international airports and the constant need for technological adaptation, Terminal 2 is committed to executing aggressive marketing strategies to maintain its momentum. With a clear vision for growth and strategic investments in both infrastructure and innovation, Cam Ranh International Airport’s Terminal 2 is well positioned to expand its global connectivity and emerge as a leading international gateway in Vietnam, paving the way for further regional and global travel opportunities.
