West Wind Aviation (WEW, Saskatoon) has closed its Express Air (Canada) (WEW, Saskatoon) brand citing the adverse impact of the COVID-19 on the domestic Canadian market. The virtual carrier plied a single return route – between Saskatoon and Regina – using Beech 1900D capacity chartered from sister carrier Transwest Air (4T, Prince Albert). “As you know, the impact of COVID-19 has had a serious, negative impact on business operations for many companies across Saskatchewan and Canada, including the West Wind Group of Companies,” Transwest Air said in a statement dated September 15. “As a result, we have engaged in an analysis of our business operations and requirements and implemented several cost reduction strategies. As such, we regret to inform you that we are discontinuing our Express Air service between Saskatoon and Regina.” For the period September 12 to December 24, 2020, Transwest Air said it would offer scheduled passenger and cargo flights to Saskatoon, Prince Albert, La Ronge, Stony Rapids, Fond du Lac, Uranium City, Wollaston Lake, and Points North Landing.
