Carnival Jubilee Achieves Milestone with Successful Ems River Conveyance
Carnival Cruise Line has reached a significant milestone in the construction of its newest ship, Carnival Jubilee, as it completed a unique navigational feat. The ship became the first in Carnival’s fleet to successfully navigate the Ems River conveyance in northwest Germany, marking a crucial step towards its debut in Texas this December.
Built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, Carnival Jubilee was expertly maneuvered from the shipyard to Eemshaven, Netherlands, in preparation for its upcoming sea trials. This conveyance involved sailing the vessel backward towards the North Sea, a challenging task that commenced early Monday morning and was assisted by two tugboats for enhanced maneuverability.
The transfer was facilitated by the skilled Pilot Brotherhood of Emden, a group of Ems River pilots equipped with advanced training and technology, including a realistic river simulation. Their expertise ensured the safe passage of Carnival Jubilee through the river’s narrow channels and under several bridges, leading to its timely arrival in Eemshaven early Tuesday morning.
Carnival Jubilee is set to undergo its first round of sea trials beginning on November 5. These trials will be conducted by a full team of officers, technicians, and engineers who will rigorously test the ship’s technical, mechanical, and navigational systems.
Meanwhile, the shipbuilders are busy outfitting the vessel with various amenities and exclusive new sea-themed concepts. These features are designed to enhance the onboard experience for guests once the sailings commence from Galveston. Among its innovations, Carnival Jubilee will feature BOLT: The Ultimate Seacoaster, a top-deck rollercoaster, and will be powered by a Liquefied Natural Gas propulsion system.
Carnival Jubilee’s maiden revenue cruise is scheduled to depart from Galveston on December 23. The ship will offer weeklong cruises to the Caribbean, with stops at popular destinations such as Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico, as well as Mahogany Bay in Roatan. This accomplishment not only signifies a major construction milestone for Carnival Jubilee but also underscores Carnival Cruise Line’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the cruise industry.
