Cathay Pacific Sees Massive Boost in Hong Kong-London Route Thanks to Student Travel
Cathay Pacific, based out of Hong Kong, has announced a substantial surge in its passenger numbers for the Hong Kong-London route. The remarkable growth is primarily attributed to the increased demand for student travel.
In the month of September alone, the airline experienced a staggering 480% growth in passenger numbers year-on-year, recording 1.5 million travelers. Accompanying this growth, the load factor, a key metric indicating the capacity utilization of the airline, saw an uplift of 11.2 percentage points, settling at 83.7%.
To effectively cater to the escalating demand, Cathay Pacific judiciously amplified the frequency of its services connecting Hong Kong and the UK. The strategy proved successful as the load factors soared to an impressive 98% on these flights.
The airline believes that the sudden upswing in student traffic is primarily tied to the onset of the new academic year, with the UK emerging as a prominent destination. This indicates a robust demand for educational travel between the two regions.
