Cayman Airways Issues New Tender for DHC-6 Acquisition After May 2023 Setback
Cayman Airways Express has relaunched its search for a single DHC-6 aircraft, following the unsuccessful call for tenders in May 2023. The airline is specifically seeking the DHC-6-300 variant, with consideration also given to the DHC-6-100 and DHC-6-200 variants equipped with High Gross Weight modifications. Notably, the DHC-6-400 variant is excluded from the bidding process.
To be eligible, aircraft must have accumulated less than 30,000 flight hours, feature fixed gear, and be configured to accommodate 17-19 passengers in the cabin layout. Additionally, no heavy maintenance should be scheduled within the first 12 months after delivery.
The deadline for potential suppliers to submit their offers is set for November 18, 2023. While the majority of the requirements mirror those of the previous tender in May 2023, there is a significant shift in the government’s stance: only sale bids will be entertained, and leasing options are no longer under consideration.
Cayman Airways Express, a subsidiary of Cayman Airways, currently operates two DHC-6-300s and two Saab 340B(Plus) aircraft. The new acquisition is intended for growth purposes rather than as a replacement for the existing fleet. It’s worth noting that Cayman Airways Express exclusively operates domestically, connecting airports in Grand Cayman Island, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac Island.
