Cebu Pacific Orders 70 Airbus A321neo Jets
Airbus and Cebu Pacific have officially confirmed an order for 70 A321neo jets during a special signing ceremony held in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, on October 2, 2024. The agreement was signed by Mike Szücs, CEO of Cebu Pacific, and Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales for Airbus’s Commercial Aircraft division.
This latest firm order is part of a larger agreement that includes a total commitment to 102 A321neo aircraft, along with purchase rights for an additional 50 A320neo family aircraft. However, the immediate commitment is specifically for 70 A321neo jets. This order follows the announcement made at the Farnborough International Airshow in July 2024, where Cebu Pacific, Airbus, and Pratt & Whitney revealed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for up to 152 A320neo family aircraft.
While details regarding additional options for more A320neo family aircraft remain unconfirmed, the current agreement highlights Cebu Pacific’s commitment to expanding its fleet with modern and efficient aircraft.
“The selection of the Airbus A321neo underscores our focus on operational efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. This ensures that we continue to deliver the highest standards of service while significantly reducing our carbon footprint,” stated Szücs. He emphasized that this milestone signals Cebu Pacific’s ongoing dedication to enhancing air travel accessibility and affordability, supporting the broader economic growth and connectivity goals of the Philippines.
Currently, Cebu Pacific operates 61 A320 family aircraft within its regional network, as well as nine A330 widebody aircraft on high-density routes across the region. Following this latest order, the airline’s backlog with Airbus now includes 94 A320neo family aircraft and seven A330neo jets.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry remarked on the long-standing partnership with Cebu Pacific, stating, “The A320 Family has supported Cebu Pacific’s domestic and short-haul international network growth over the last two decades. We’re grateful to the airline for its continued endorsement of our bestselling single-aisle product line. The A321neo is highly regarded for its unparalleled economics, performance, and fuel efficiency.”
He further noted, “We’re confident that these additional A321neo aircraft will significantly contribute to Cebu Pacific’s next phase of expansion as one of Asia-Pacific’s leading low-cost carriers.”
The acquisition of the A321neo jets will enable Cebu Pacific to enhance its service offerings while aligning with its commitment to sustainable aviation practices. The A321neo’s fuel efficiency and operational flexibility make it an ideal choice for low-cost carriers looking to expand their networks while minimizing environmental impact.
As Cebu Pacific continues to grow and adapt to the changing landscape of air travel, this order marks a critical step in their strategy to remain competitive in the rapidly evolving aviation market. The airline’s investment in the A321neo fleet reflects its commitment to delivering affordable and accessible travel options for passengers in the Philippines and beyond.
