China Eastern Airlines, one of the largest airlines in China and a member of the SkyTeam alliance, has announced that it will launch new flights from Hangzhou (HGH) and Jinan (TNA) to Auckland (AKL), Sydney (SYD), and Singapore (SIN) in November 2023. The airline said that the new routes will enhance its international network and offer more travel options for passengers from China and the destinations.

From HGH, the capital of Zhejiang province and a popular tourist destination in China, China Eastern will operate two new flights to AKL and SYD, using its Airbus A330-200 aircraft. The flights will run in a triangular routing, with HGH-AKL-SYD-HGH twice a week and HGH-SYD-AKL-HGH twice a week. The flights will start from November 5, 2023.

From TNA, the capital of Shandong province and another attractive city in China, China Eastern will launch two new flights to SIN and SYD, also using its Airbus A330-200 aircraft. The flights will run three times a week, with TNA-SIN-TNA on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and TNA-SYD-TNA on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The flights will start from November 11, 2023.

With the addition of the new routes, China Eastern will directly link SYD with six mainland Chinese cities, including Shanghai (SHA), Nanjing (NKG), Wuhan (WUH), and Xi’an (XIY). The airline will also increase its capacity to AKL and SIN, which are already served from SHA.

China Eastern said that the new routes were part of its ambitious growth plan to launch up to 41 new international and regional destinations, transforming SHA’s Pudong International Airport (PVG) into a “mega-hub” and potentially adding more services to Oceania, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
