China Southern Airlines has officially begun the construction of its new base in Shenzhen, a city located in South China’s Guangdong Province. The strategic location of Shenzhen, bordering the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong, offers excellent opportunities for convenient onward ground transportation.

A ceremony was held to mark the commencement of construction on May 19th, 2023. The project is estimated to require a total investment of RMB 2.4 billion (USD 341 million) over the next five years.

The upcoming China Southern Airlines base in Shenzhen will consist of dedicated facilities for flight operations, aircraft maintenance, cargo transportation, and a logistics center. Spanning an impressive 338,000 square meters, the base will also feature an international cargo terminal. Additionally, the center will host workshops focused on flight and maintenance technological innovations, as well as a laboratory dedicated to developing safety procedures for passenger cabin emergency response.

The first stage of the project will encompass a 210,000-square-meter area, with an estimated cost of RMB 1.6 billion (USD 228 million). This initial phase is projected to be completed by 2028, laying the foundation for further development and expansion in the future.
