The Federal Aviation Administration’s Drone Advisory Committee has suggested in a report that the agency modernize language choices to be more inclusive by using gender-neutral terminology such as “aircrew” instead of “airman” and “traditional aviation” in lieu of “manned aviation.” The new words and phrases are meant to reduce unintentional and intentional bias and encourage a more accepting environment for underrepresented groups in aviation, including women and people who are nonbinary.
