Cyprus Airways Adds Two New Airbus A220 Aircraft to Fleet in Special Ceremony
In a momentous event held at the Private and Presidential Terminal, Skylink Services, based at Larnaca International Airport (LCA), Cyprus Airways, the flag carrier of the island, proudly welcomed two brand-new Airbus A220 aircraft to its fleet. The arrival of these advanced aircraft, leased from the United States-based lessor, Air Lease Corporation, was celebrated during a special ceremony on Friday, July 21, 2023.
Among the esteemed guests at the ceremony were the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Kostas Koumis, officials from the Ministry of Finance and Transportation, as well as Cyprus Airways’ shareholders, board of directors, and management team.
Paul Sies, the CEO of Cyprus Airways, expressed his excitement, stating, “Today marks a significant development in the history of Cyprus Airways. We are delighted to welcome our first two Airbus A220 aircraft to our fleet. This transition from being an A320 operator to the advanced A220-300 signifies a remarkable milestone and a new era for us. It marks another important step in the transformative journey of Cyprus Airways, as we aim to offer an unparalleled on-board travel experience, enhance operational efficiency, and significantly decrease our environmental footprint.”
Sies further added, “The Airbus A220 is celebrated for its exceptional features and capabilities, aligning perfectly with our vision to strike the best balance between passenger comfort and operational efficiency.”
The company’s enthusiasm for the new aircraft has been evident on its social media channels, with messages like “the future is green” and “introducing the all-new Airbus A220.”
The two aircraft are expected to start serving Cyprus Airways’ popular destinations in the coming days. They were flown to Cyprus last week from Mirabel, Quebec, Canada, the home of the Airbus A220 program.
