Delta’s seating algorithm reserves rows for groups

Delta Air Lines is making it easier for passenger groups to find seats together by employing an algorithm that blocks off rows from being selected by anyone buying fewer than three tickets. The “dynamic seat-map algorithm” uses historical booking and seat assignment data to decide how many rows to hold back, blocking more seats on leisure travel routes, and can change the number withheld if more singles and couples begin booking a specific flight.
