DHL Express Teams Up with Singapore Airlines to Introduce New Boeing 777 Freighter Service
DHL Express, the globe’s paramount international express service company, has collaborated with Singapore Airlines (SIA) to initiate a new Boeing 777 freighter service. This venture covers two crucial routes connecting Asia and North America. It is a direct outcome of the crew and maintenance agreement both giants inked in March 2022.
The introduction of this service is set to bolster the capacity and reach of both DHL Express and SIA. Furthermore, it will aptly cater to the burgeoning demand for e-commerce deliveries and other cargo consignments in the region.
The freshly inaugurated Boeing 777-200LRF freighter, showcasing a unique DHL-SIA dual branding, promises extensive connectivity. The weekly schedule involves five round trips along the Singapore-Nagoya-Los Angeles-Honolulu-Singapore route and a single trip spanning Singapore-Taipei-Nagoya-Cincinnati-Honolulu-Sydney-Singapore. This cutting-edge aircraft boasts of a staggering payload capacity of 102 tons and exhibits the prowess to cover 4,970 nautical miles (approx. 9,200 km) without necessitating a refueling halt.
A pivotal aspect of the DHL Express and SIA alliance entails rolling out five Boeing 777 freighters that will operate from Singapore. These planes are primarily assigned to cater to the cargo demands between Asia and North America. Out of these, two aircraft were commissioned and became operational in July and October 2022. The trio of remaining freighters is slated to integrate into the fleet by the culmination of 2023.
Expressing his enthusiasm about this significant advancement, Ken Lee, DHL Express Asia Pacific’s CEO, emphasized that this new service is primed to proffer augmented options and adaptability to patrons spanning both regions. He highlighted the dual benefits of slashed transit durations and carbon footprint reduction. Lee further accentuated the strategic advantage of Singapore’s position as a pivotal air cargo nexus that the collaboration will harness.
Similarly, Lee Lik Hsin, SIA’s Executive Vice President Commercial, projected that this service fortifies SIA’s stature as a dominant cargo transporter on the global front. He viewed this as a propelling force for the aviation sector’s recuperation and expansion in the challenging backdrop of the COVID-19 crisis. In conclusion, he expressed SIA’s pride in aligning with DHL Express to render top-notch air freight solutions to the clientele.
