Disney Treasure Rescues Four Passengers from Sinking Catamaran
Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Treasure, successfully rescued four people from a sinking catamaran off the coast of Bermuda. The ship responded to a call for help from the U.S. Coast Guard, who alerted the crew to the distressed vessel, the Serenity, which had begun taking on water after a gasket failure in the escape hatch.
At the time of the incident, the Disney Treasure was on its way back to Port Canaveral, Florida, from Eemshaven, Netherlands, and was approximately 80 miles from the stranded catamaran. Upon receiving the Coast Guard’s distress call, the Disney Treasure launched one of its small rescue boats to save the four passengers on board the Serenity.
The crew acted swiftly to assist the individuals in peril, bringing them aboard the Disney Treasure without incident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the rescue. Captain Marco Nogara of the Disney Treasure expressed his pride in the crew’s efforts, praising their commitment to safety and their effective training. “We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril,” Captain Nogara said in a statement to ABC News. “Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skillfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety.”
This rescue is part of a broader trend of cruise ship rescues that have taken place this year. Similar incidents have been reported involving ships from other major cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line, operating in regions spanning from the Caribbean to the Pacific. These events underscore the critical role that cruise ships play in responding to emergencies at sea, particularly when other vessels are in distress.
The Disney Treasure, which is part of Disney Cruise Line’s fleet of luxury ships, is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and well-trained crew members, ensuring it is always ready to respond in emergencies like this. The ship’s quick and efficient response demonstrates the effectiveness of Disney Cruise Line’s safety protocols, which prioritize the well-being of passengers and crew members alike.
The rescue also highlights the importance of collaboration between cruise ships, the Coast Guard, and other maritime authorities in ensuring the safety of all those at sea. Disney Cruise Line continues to emphasize safety, training, and preparedness in all of its operations, and this rescue serves as a prime example of how those efforts translate into real-world action.
As cruise lines continue to expand their fleets and itineraries, the safety of passengers and crew remains a top priority, with many cruise lines investing in new technologies and training programs to ensure they are prepared for emergencies. The Disney Treasure’s swift response in Bermuda is a testament to these ongoing efforts to enhance maritime safety and provide assistance to those in need while at sea.
