easyJet to suspend two Italian bases for Winter 2020/21
easyJet (U2, London Luton) will temporarily close two of its Italian bases, at Naples Capodichino and Venice Marco Polo airports, during the Winter 2020/21 season, Airways Mag has reported citing an internal communication. The Venice base will reportedly be closed for the entire season through March 27, 2021, while the Naples base will reopen on December 18, 2020, in time for the Christmas/New Year peak. The British low-cost carrier confirmed the development in a statement to ch-aviation but underlined that both bases will continue to be served with aircraft based elsewhere. According to the ch-aviation schedules module, due to COVID-related network cuts, easyJet itself currently operates just two routes out of Naples – to London Gatwick and London Luton. From Venice, it flies to Gatwick and Manchester Int’l. easyJet Europe (EC, Vienna) operates all of the group’s Italian bases and domestic routes. From Naples, it operates to Basel/Mulhouse/Freiburg, CH, Catania, Geneva, London Gatwick, Milan Malpensa, Palermo, Paris Orly, Turin and Venice Marco Polo. From its Venice base, easyJet Europe currently serves Bari, Berlin Tegel, Brindisi, Catania, Naples, Olbia, Paris CDG, and Paris Orly. The airline has a third Italian base – at Milan Malpensa.
